class=\"wp-caption-text\">Everything you really need.\u00a0 Veggies, fruits, meat, seafood.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the way back to Halifax we stopped at the Herrick Cove Volunteer Fire Station where my son Karl is the Captain.\u00a0 The station has five salaried career firefighters who are on call 24-7 and twenty four volunteer firefighters who respond to calls as needed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2525\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2525\" style=\"width: 3323px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maxvollmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251101_114217.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2525\" src=\"https:\/\/maxvollmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251101_114217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3323\" height=\"2660\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2525\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Halifax Regional Fire &amp; Emergency, Station 60, Herrick Cove.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2512\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2512\" style=\"width: 4080px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maxvollmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251101_110619.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2512\" src=\"https:\/\/maxvollmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251101_110619.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4080\" height=\"3060\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2512\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Karl beside the brand new Engine 60 which can carry approx. 550 gallons of water.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Engine 60 is only 3~4 months old, cost approx. $750,000, and is the workhorse with the pump that feeds up to four hoses.\u00a0 The captain rides in the right front seat with a driver who does not leave the truck.\u00a0 Four additional firefighters ride in the crew cab where they gear up on the way to a fire.\u00a0 Engine 60 carries oxygen tanks for crew, fire hose, and specialty tools like chain saws, &#8220;jaws of life,&#8221; etc.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2513\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2513\" style=\"width: 4080px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pump, the heart of Engine 60.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tanker 60 carries approx. 1200 gal. of water, 1.5 km. of fire hose, and a two ladders, one of which is a 2-flight ladder that will support a fireman in full gear carrying a second person in the case of rescues from upper stories.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2517\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2517\" style=\"width: 4080px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maxvollmer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/20251101_112621.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Karl&#8217;s office are on the 2nd floor.\u00a0 There is a traditional fire pole for firefighters to descend quickly from the 2nd floor.\u00a0 You see the Canadian flag along with one with the star, crescent, and red cross that is the Mi&#8217;kmaq flag of the indigenous people.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a good place to mention that the Acadians have their own flag which is the French Tricolor with a yellow star in the upper left corner.\u00a0 I see it flown on homes of those who identify as Acadians.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2520\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2520\" style=\"width:
