Shore Acres State Park on the Oregon Coast, southwest of Coos Bay/North Bend, was once the grand estate of pioneer timber baron, Louis Simpson, in the early 20th century. The estate fell into disrepair after the Simpson house burned to the ground in the early 1900’s and the property was subsequently taken over by Oregon State Parks. The grounds and gardens have been largely restored to something like their original design and are now open to the public. I made a brief visit in the early 2000’s and took a few photos. I really want to go back and spend more time looking around. Late Spring/early Summer would be ideal. [Click on any image to enlarge, All photos Max Vollmer]
